Privacy Policy

OkuSplit is an app for writing down shared expenses and seeing who owes whom. It is run by App Service ("we"). This page says, in plain words, what we keep about you, why, where, and how to delete it.
What we keep
- Your account: the name and email address that Apple or Google share with us when you sign in, and the account id they give us. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your email; we then get a private relay address from Apple.
- For Sign in with Apple, a token Apple gives us. We keep it encrypted and use it only to cancel your Apple sign-in when you delete your account.
- What you put in the app: your groups, the people in them, expenses, amounts and currencies, notes, comments, photos you add, your friends list and your settings (for example, the language).
- If you turn on notifications: the push token your phone gives us, so we can send notifications to it.
- Short-lived technical records: our servers see your IP address and the time of each request, to keep the service working and to stop abuse (for example, too many sign-in attempts).
What we do not do
- No ads, and no advertising ids.
- We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
- No third-party analytics, trackers or profiling.
- We do not read your contacts or track your location.
Who can see your data
- The people in a group see that group: its expenses, notes, comments and photos, and the name you have in it. Your friends see your name.
- The companies that run parts of the service for us, only to do that work: Railway (servers, database and file storage, in the United States, US East), Cloudflare R2 (backup copies), and Apple and Google (sign-in and delivery of push notifications).
- We may share data if the law requires it, or to protect people or the service from harm.
Photos and exchange rates from other services
- Place photos come from Unsplash. To find one, our server sends Unsplash the name of the place (never your name or your group). The photo is then loaded on your phone directly from Unsplash’s servers, so Unsplash can see your IP address, as with any website.
- Exchange rates come from the European Central Bank and ExchangeRate-API. Our server fetches the rates; none of your data is sent to them.
Where your data is
Your data is stored on servers in the United States (Railway, US East). Backup copies are kept with Cloudflare R2. Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted (HTTPS). Sign-in sessions are kept on your phone in its secure storage; our server keeps only a fingerprint (hash) of them.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. Backup copies are kept for up to 12 months and are used only to restore the service after a failure.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time inside the app (account menu → Delete account). When you do:
- Your account is anonymised: its name becomes "Deleted user", and your email address and your Apple / Google account ids are erased.
- You are signed out on every device, and we cancel your Sign in with Apple with Apple.
- Your personal items are deleted, and your notifications stop.
- In shared groups, the expenses and the person you were stay, so the other members can still see their balances. They show the name the group knew you by, no longer linked to any account. The group’s edit history keeps earlier versions of its entries.
Your choices and rights
You can change your name in the app, turn notifications off, leave groups and delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to how we use it. Write to team@okusplit.com and we will answer within 30 days.
Children
OkuSplit is not meant for children under 13 (or under the age of digital consent where you live). We do not knowingly keep data about them; if you think we do, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is important, we will also tell you in the app.
